Hygge your home for winter!
What is Hygge?
Described as ‘cosiness’ or ‘togetherness’ in English, Hygge doesn’t have any definite translation which can make it near impossible to pinpoint its exact meaning. Don’t let that put you off though!

What Hygge (pronounced Hue-gah) does have in abundance, is a unique feeling of warmth and intimacy that translates into almost any area of modern living.
The focus is on ‘staying in’ and enjoying time with family and friends or time alone relaxing. It’s a chance to indulge oneself and make your home an inviting comfort-nest! Simple and elegant – smooth off whites and pastel hues, gentle textures, soft woollen fabrics, and an overall sense of sophisticated Scandi style.
Living the Hygge way is believed to benefit both the mind and body through lowering stress levels. Also aiding relaxation, surely moving some of the Danish ways into our home must be a good idea!
Picture yourself in this classic Hygge scene: lazing in a hot bath, candles casting light across the room while you read a favourite book (Danish thriller of course!) and enjoying a hot mug of perfectly brewed coffee. Underfoot as you walk back across the bathroom, wrapped in towels towards the kitchen & the coffee pot for a refill, is one of our Hygge inspired designer floor coverings – a little bit of Scandinavia under every step!

And then there was Lagom!
Just as you’d brought the Hygge into your home, those pesky Scandinavians have moved on to Lagom. Meaning ‘just the right amount’ it fulfils more than just decor or home sense. As an overarching life concept, it signifies a balance in home and work.
Eliott Stocks of Lagom Magazine explained it as, “Hygge captures a moment in time. Whether that be a short break in the day or something you try and work into your life every day. Lagom is an overarching concept behind your life in general. Rather than fitting a bit of lagom into your day, it’s more about your approach to your life as a whole.”
